Book Review: Lover Eternal by JR Ward

Hey guys,

the next book I'm reviewing is Lover Eternal. I took up this book as a fun, easy read to take a break from Duma's Marrie Antoinette series, because even though it's an enjoyable read the sheer volume of the works is a bit exhausting. By the way I'm halfway through the first book. So, I saw that a friend of mine was reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and I remembered how entertaining they were. This is the second book in the series, but I recently (2 years ago) read the first one, and I decided to skip it.

GoodReads Summary:

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves..

My opinion:
Let me start with the fact that this book isn't for people who don't like reading about sex, as the erotic is a big part of the series. I mean the cover gives enough indication about this. I think it's really important to know what your expectations are of the book. I really liked it because I knew that it was going to be a story which doesn't claim some big literary value and it's purely for entertainment.
The relationship between Mary and Rhage was sweet and doomed from the start, as she had cancer. A lot of the misunderstandings would have been avoided if they just talk to each other instead of assuming things. However, this is exactly what was driving the plot forward.
Now there are exactly two thing which I didn't like. Rhage sleeping with someone else after he already knew Mary was just awful, and then it was absolutely ridiculous that after hearing about it she got so mad that she actually slept with him. Like??? Seriously??? But I guess that's just something I need to ignore.
The other thing was Bella - Mary's vampire friend, got abducted by a lesser (the bad guys). And instead of materializing she decided the best thing was to run?
Despite these two shortcomings there were a lot of things that I liked. We saw not only the isolated relationship between Mary and Rhage, but the story of John also progressed, we got introduced to the leading lady in the next book, we saw the beginning of Z and Bella.
Overall if you're looking for an easy read I totally recommend this book.

Filthy Rich Vampires by Geneva Lee Albin

Hey guys, I managed to read a book. Shocking, I know. I was scrolling through some book pages and came across Filthy Rich Vampires. I was in the mood for something light, plot-driven, maybe some sex scenes, just something entertaining to be honest. I actually love stories about vampires. So, when I saw this one I was like JACKPOT. ! I was a little taken aback by the title. I really don't like when people obviously hop on the bandwagon of a popular title/series, etc. GoodReads Summary: Julian Rousseaux has a problem. He’s single, and for the world’s wealthiest vampires, the social season is about to begin. Julian would rather stake himself than participate in the marriage market. But as the eldest, eligible Rousseaux he’s expected to find a wife before the season ends—whether he likes it or not. When cellist Thea literally stumbles into his life at a gala, he knows she's the last person he could ever fall in love with. She's too innocent, too kind, and way too human. But no...
