Howards End by EM Forster

Hey guys,

I read another book for my reading challenge( which by the looks of it would be a fail). This time it's another classic - Howards End by EM Forster. I became aware of the existence of this book by watching the HBO TV series.

GoodReads Summary

Only connect…

A chance acquaintance brings together the preposterous bourgeois Wilcox family and the clever, cultured and idealistic Schlegel sisters. As clear-eyed Margaret develops a friendship with Mrs Wilcox, the impetuous Helen brings into their midst a young bank clerk named Leonard Bast, who lives at the edge of poverty and ruin. When Mrs Wilcox dies, her family discovers that she wants to leave her country home, Howards End, to Margaret. Thus as Forster sets in motion a chain of events that will entangle three different families, he brilliantly portrays their aspirations to personal and social harmony.

My opinion

The story of the Shlegel sisters is a compelling one. The portrayed characters are lively, the writing is superb and the plot flows seamlessly. However, the most interesting aspect of the book for me was all the scenes when there was a debate between one of the sisters and Mr. Wilcox. The themes are regarding the equality, rich vs. poor, feminism, etc. These are themes which are still very much pressing.

This is one of the books, which is going to have one of the shortest review here, because I read this book about a month ago and even though I liked it a lot, I feel like there isn't much to talk about other than I think this is a story which everyone will like, and everyone will have something to think about after they have finished it. That's why I do not want to give away too much, and subsequently to spoil something. I also strongly recommend the HBO TV series.

Book Review: 24 Girls in 7 Days by Alex Bradley

Hey guys, I think by now, with total two of my book reviews, it's been established that I start my book reviews with a standout quote from the book. Not it this case. Why? Because it f****** sucked. Now you may ask yourselves why did I bother to read it? I read the book in two days, which isn't because it was sooo amazing and I couldn't put it down. It was because it was an extremely easy and quick read. And as I mentioned I've set a reading goal - 50 books in a year. And the best summarization of this book is this: It starts promising and fails miserably. Spoilers The first few chapters were funny and entertaining. The style was also good, and the direction which it was going seemed quite full with potential, but it missed the mark a big time. So, the plot is this as posted on GoodReads:  There are few things sadder than Jack Grammar's love life. So when his friends take it upon themselves to get him a date to the prom by placing an intensel...
