Hey guys,
the book I'm reviewing today is on the risky side as you've gathered by the title its about a prostitute. So, if you don't like books dealing with this type of themes than I suggest you stop reading.
GoodReads Summary:
Belle couldn't find a job after University. Her impressive degree was not paying her rent or buying her food. But after a fantastic threesome with a very rich couple that gave her a ton of money, Belle realized that she could earn more than anyone she knew--by becoming a call girl. The rest is history. Belle became a twenty-something London working girl--and had the audacity to write about it--anonymously. The shockingly candid and explicit diary she put on the Internet became a London sensation. Now, in BELLE DE JOUR, she shares her entire journey inside the world of high-priced escorts, including fascinating and explicit insights about her job and her clients, her various boyfriends, and a taboo lifestyle that has to be read to be believed. The witty observations, shocking revelations, and hilarious scenarios deliver like the very best fiction and makes for a titillating reading experience unlike any other.
My opinion:
First of all, let me start by saying that the author was truly a prostitute, who had a blog apparently, and this blog was later turned into a book in the form of a diary. With other words the book is in a way autobiographical in a way.
Belle is a funny and witty girl who writes down the mundane tasks and daily life, her sporadic thoughts when she has nothing to write about, and yes, there are the graphic descriptions of her doing her job. If you have expected this to be a sad sobbing story about a girl who was forced into prostitution you are mistaken. Belle isn't a tragic heroine who is trying to get out of the business. She is someone who loves sex, in my opinion the way she was presented, she was actually a sex addict.
She gets into a lot of details concerning her need to be fisted, how she has no problem with anal sex, etc. And this could put off some readers. But I had no problem with it, after all its a book about a sex worker - it's expected.
I'm not going to get into much details but I found it to be entertaining and funny and I liked how lighthearted it was.
