Hey guys,
I finally managed to finish the fourth and final book in Mead's series Dark Swan. It definitely took me longer to read this one compared to the others, mainly because after Iron Crowned I really, really didn't feel like it.
GoodReads Summary:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Richelle Mead returns to the Otherworld, a mystic land inextricably linked to our own--and balanced precariously on one woman's desperate courage...
Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham strives to keep the mortal realm safe from trespassing entities. But as the Thorn Land's prophecy-haunted queen, there's no refuge for her and her soon-to-be-born-children when a mysterious blight begins to devastate the Otherworld...
The spell-driven source of the blight isn't the only challenge to Eugenie's instincts. Fairy king Dorian is sacrificing everything to help, but Eugenie can't trust the synergy drawing them back together. The uneasy truce between her and her shape shifter ex-lover Kiyo is endangered by secrets he can't--or won't--reveal. And as a formidable force rises to also threaten the human world, Eugenie must use her own cursed fate as a weapon--and risk the ultimate sacrifice...
My opinion:
It was a mix between wtf and that's not so bad.
The first pages of the book ware outright boring for me, I think the whole drama with the pregnency could have been summaried in one chapter and be done with it.
Eugene acted stupidly again but at least this time the whole Kiyo thing was missing, I mean, honestly if she was reminiscing and daydreaming about him I would have stopped reading.
The plot regarding the blight was interesting, I feel like Mead didn't want to make it too complicated by using plot twists - it was clear from the start who was the culprit. The moment when the book actually became interesting for me was the scene with the dryads up until they finally managed to lift the curse. After that it became too... easy (for lack of better word). Even though Eugene again made it into some complicated matter (it turned out her son wasn't the heir and Eugene wasn't the firstborn and there was a boy who was actually Stormking's first grandson). Ultimately I didn't like the ending at all. Yes, Eugene finally ended up with Dorian but with the secret she is holding I can only imagine their happiness would be shorlived. Despite what negative feelings I have I would still like to read a short story, a novella anything which would give a definite ending to the story and not be so opened.
