Storm Born by Richelle Mead

Hey guys,
I felt a strong pull to reread some of Richelle Mead's books and I thought it would be a good idea to start with her Dark Swan series as apparently I've managed to read just two out of the four. Thanks to GoodReads I can tell you exactly when I read Storm Born. It was in 2010, which is absolutely crazy because it felt like not that long ago but taking into account how much I don't remember about this book I could make the deduction that I'm getting old. Pretty much everything I remembered was that the main character (I didn't remember her name) was killing Otherworldly creatures and was in a love triangle between a guy who could turn into a fox and Dorian (funny that I remembered this guy name).
GoodReads Summary:
Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants...

Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy—one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.

Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her...

My opinion:
Contains spoilers

Eugene (the worst lead character name in my opinion) was relate-able and easily liked. This is a theme throughout Mead's writing. Her heroines are always similar - strong women who can kick ass, but don't know what they want. I don't know about you but I'm sick of reading about love triangles. And I'm pretty set in my opinion that you can love only one person at a time. I understand that you can be attracted to others but I'm getting ahead of myself, as the theme regarding love is more dominant in the second book. In this one Eugene is trying to escape rape as every man from the Otherworld is trying to father her child in order to fulfill a prophecy. Rape aside, I think that Mead managed to describe the battle scenes quite fully and in an entertaining manner.
My favorite part was every time Volusian (a dark spirit which Eugene bound to herself and is her minion now) made an appearance. I don't know he seemed quite entertaining.
Now to the boys.
I don't know how there is even a contest and how Eugene can't decide when it's obvious that Dorian is the guy for her and is the better choice. Kiyo can fuck off. I understand Eugene's initial wariness towards Dorian and her lifelong prejudice against his kind and that it took time for her to shake it off. But! But!
Kiyo is a fuck boy and no one can convince me otherwise. I mean he had a pregnant ex and he thought it would be a good idea to not talk about it. If he and Eugene were like let's be fuck buddies ok, but it was evident that they were going to try to be in a relationship. I don't know I just don't like him (which only grew in the next book).

The development in Eugene and Dorian's relationship was much more interesting. However, there was one thing which didn't make any sense. Dorian told her he would have sex with her only when she really wanted it, and then he extorts her - he would help her rescue a human girl in the Otherworld when and after she sleeps with him. The crazy thing is Eugene agreed. That aside I think Dorian showed that he was trustworthy and he told her right from the beginning what he wants.
I think the story was interesting and wanted to know what happened next, I started reading the second one right after I finished the first book which is evidence to how much I liked it.

Book Review: 24 Girls in 7 Days by Alex Bradley

Hey guys, I think by now, with total two of my book reviews, it's been established that I start my book reviews with a standout quote from the book. Not it this case. Why? Because it f****** sucked. Now you may ask yourselves why did I bother to read it? I read the book in two days, which isn't because it was sooo amazing and I couldn't put it down. It was because it was an extremely easy and quick read. And as I mentioned I've set a reading goal - 50 books in a year. And the best summarization of this book is this: It starts promising and fails miserably. Spoilers The first few chapters were funny and entertaining. The style was also good, and the direction which it was going seemed quite full with potential, but it missed the mark a big time. So, the plot is this as posted on GoodReads:  There are few things sadder than Jack Grammar's love life. So when his friends take it upon themselves to get him a date to the prom by placing an intensel...
