Iron Crowned by Richelle Mead

Hey guys,
this is the third book out of four in Richelle Mead's series called the Dark Swan. After the events in the second one I was pretty excited to read it. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations.

GoodReads Summary:
An embattled mystically entwined with our own,
the Otherworld is at the mercy of one woman...

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham is the best at banishing entities trespassing in the mortal realm. But as the Thorn Land’s queen, she’s fast running out of ways to end the brutal war devastating her kingdom. Her only hope: the Iron Crown, a legendary object even the most powerful gentry fear…

Who Eugenie can trust is the hardest part. Fairy king Dorian has his own agenda for aiding her search. And Kiyo, her shape-shifter ex-boyfriend, has every reason to betray her along the way. To control the Crown’s ever-consuming powers, Eugenie will have to confront an unimaginable temptation--one that will put her soul and the fate of two worlds in mortal peril…

My opinion:
Spoilers

Basically, this book only proved what an idiot Eugene can be. She's finally in a relationship with Dorian and everything seems great between them. Granted, they're in a war as a direct result of their actions in the second book so Eugene is desperately trying to find a solution which would put an end to it as the casualties are too many for her to handle. And this is where everything goes downhill.
In this book, honestly I think that the only sane people are Jasmine and Volusian. Eugene has the chance to hire an assassin and kill her enemy without much effort but she is above that and I really think she should have taken the chance. Of course then the book could have ended in about 100 pages.
Then miraculously an old woman tells her about the Iron Crown, a crown which could be worn only by the strongest gentry (gentry can't touch iron), and is told that it doesn't really have any power, it's more of a symbol. And Eugene - the idiot believes it.  Now, Dorian is an idiot by forcing her to go take it with Kiyo, her ex. I mean, seriously???
After Eugene realize that Dorian and the old woman had lied to her about the Crown, she quickly has sex with Kiyo??? I mean, it was less than a day that she was talking about how much she loved Dorian. She tries to justify it with how he lied to her, but if you haven't actually broken up this was still cheating in my opinion. Yes, Dorian lying was a shitty thing to do but I think that Eugene also didn't handle the situation as a grown up. She cheated in the last book, she cheats in this one...

And finally Kiyo. Kiyo was an idiot from the start. By the final pages of the book I couldn't believe what I was reading.

It felt like a cheap fan fiction. And too melodramatic for my taste. If I had to give it a rating I would say about 2 stars. I've been delaying reading the fourth one because I can only imagine how stupidly it's going to end.

Book Review: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

“Better never means better for everyone... It always means worse, for some.”  Hey guys, it's time for another book review, as the 2018 Reading Challenge is going great. This is the fifth book that I've read in January. As you know I read Alias Grace by Atwood at the beginning of the month and I was amazed by the story and the writing. Unfortunately, this didn't happen with The Handmaid's Tale. GoodReads Summary: Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her...
